Glass, Kicks, and Politics: Ocala Man’s Wild Arrest
Deputies from Marion County Sheriff’s Office found themselves in a chaotic showdown on May 31st with an agitated local resident, Michael Higgins, who turned a quiet neighborhood into his personal battleground.
Responding to a disturbance call, Deputy H. Osborne and his team arrived at 8125 SW 106th St. to find Higgins, 35, brandishing a large pane of glass and a cell phone on the front porch. Screaming about government conspiracies, “nanobots,” and declaring his divine mission, Higgins set the stage for an unforgettable evening.
Despite multiple orders to drop the glass, Higgins’s aggression only escalated. The deputies’ attempts to deescalate the situation were met with a closed fist to Deputy Trainee Butler’s face and a chaotic struggle that resulted in bites and scratches for several deputies.
The chaos didn’t end there. Higgins, identified by his mother Rhonda Henderson, had already caused $25 worth of damage by smashing a glass tabletop earlier in a politically charged rage. His fury reached a new peak when he threatened to kill all Democrats, including family members.
Even after being handcuffed and placed in a patrol car, Higgins continued his rampage, slamming his head into the car’s glass divider, resulting in severe lacerations. His aggression persisted en route to HCA Ocala Hospital, where he managed to kick a paramedic in the stomach.
Charged with four counts of battery on officers and emergency personnel, misdemeanor resisting by obstruction, and criminal mischief, Higgins’s dramatic arrest is sure to be the talk of the neighborhood for weeks to come.
