Drug Deal Debacle: Gunfire, Kidnapping, and Snapchat Rampage Unfolds in Marion County

Drug Deal Drama: The Chain Reaction of Kidnapping and Shootings

A dramatic kidnapping, a shooting, and a series of frantic 9-1-1 calls left the local community reeling from a series of events that stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.

Marion County Sheriff Detective R. Stith, notified of a shooting investigation, quickly learned the night would be anything but routine. Reports began with a mysterious silver vehicle circling a neighborhood. A witness, who heard gunshots, described the driver as a young, light-skinned Black male (later identified as Lu’kendre Jacobs). The drama escalated when a second call reported a man shot in the stomach.

As if that wasn’t enough, a third call at 9:02 PM detailed a harrowing kidnapping. A 9-year-old was taken from a BP gas station by a man fitting the same description.

When Detective Stith arrived at the scene, he found a chaotic mix of blood, a dropped cellphone, and shell casings from two different 9mm brands. Footage from nearby Ring cameras painted a chilling picture. In one clip, the suspect’s silver Chevy Malibu can be seen as he barks orders to a frightened young man who became kidnapped, demanding he “unlock the door.”

The trail of chaos led to major crimes headquarters, where detailed interviews shed light on the night’s events. A basketball game turned dark when the victim and his friends tried to scam Lu’kendre Jacobs during a drug deal. When the heist went south, gunfire erupted. The young witness recounted how the suspect forced his brother into a car at gunpoint, threatening to kill him if he didn’t get his stolen goods back.

In a bid for his brother’s life, the victim tried to negotiate over Snapchat. But the suspect, furious and armed, wasn’t satisfied with virtual promises.

Residents, meanwhile, recounted their own unnerving encounters with the suspect. A couple dining with their family heard gunfire, only to confront the armed man in their yard. He claimed he wasn’t targeting them, just some kids who stole from him, before speeding off.

By night’s end, Detective Stith pieced together a sordid story of desperation, violence, and Snapchat threats.

Lu’kendre Jacobs was later arrested with a warrant, bringing a semblance of closure to the harrowing night.
