September 7, 2024: A quick response by Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units this morning prevented a potentially devastating fire at a commercial building in Belleview. At 7:05 a.m., dispatchers sent MCFR units to the 6700 block of SE 110th Street after a 911 caller reported smoke billowing from the roof and the distinct smell of burning wood. Belleview Engine #18, accompanied by Battalion Chief #3, was the first to arrive on the scene at 7:09 a.m., where they discovered an active fire within the structure.
Firefighters immediately deployed hose lines and forced entry into the building to battle the flames. They were soon joined by additional crews from Spruce Creek Station #30 and Villages of Marion Station #10, who provided critical support in containing the fire.
Thanks to their rapid and coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control by 7:13 a.m., just four minutes after crews arrived on scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
The cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation.
