Shooter Arrested After Parking Lot Shooting at Youth Football Game

On October 5, 2024, the Ocala Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Jervey Gantt Park during a Marion County Youth Football League (MCYFL) game. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.

Detective Grosso, leading the investigation, identified the shooter as 18-year-old Ewonye Jyiell Pinkney. According to reports, Pinkney was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Kayla Jarrell when he fired several rounds towards a known individual. Unfortunately, the shots instead struck an innocent bystander.

Following the incident, authorities located Pinkney, who was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated battery with a firearm, public firearm discharge from a vehicle, possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, and carrying a concealed firearm. Jarrell was also arrested and charged as a principal in the aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Authorities encourage anyone with additional information regarding the shooting to come forward.
