A Marion County woman was arrested Monday after deputies say she was found intoxicated, partially clothed, and responsible for injuries to a child in her care.
Deputies responded to a disturbance at a local residence, where a witness reported hearing a woman yelling, “I don’t care about anything,” while holding a baby. The witness, who described the woman as “very drunk” and dressed only in a bra, later heard a thud, the sound of skin hitting the floor, and a baby screaming.
When deputies arrived, they found Taylor Collins allegedly unsteady on her feet, slurring her speech, and smelling of alcohol. She admitted to drinking and taking Suboxone, a medication used to treat opioid addiction. The room was described as being in complete disarray, with clothing and food scattered across the floor.
Two young children were found sitting on the bed, one of whom had visible injuries, including a lump on her forehead and abrasions on her face. The injured child was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Collins’ boyfriend told deputies she had a history of alcohol abuse and that, upon returning home, he found her naked and heavily intoxicated in the bathroom. After she locked him out of the room, he reportedly heard a loud thud followed by a baby’s cries.
Collins was transported to AdventHealth Ocala under the Marchman Act before being arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of child abuse and child neglect.
