Ocala Police arrested a 9-year-old student Monday morning after he was found with a loaded revolver on a school bus.
According to police, the child took the firearm from a relative’s secured room without permission and brought it onto the bus, where he showed it to other students. Officers responded quickly after the incident was reported, safely detaining the juvenile and recovering the weapon. No injuries were reported.
The juvenile was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Charges include possession of a firearm on school property, armed burglary, grand theft of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and disruption of a school function.
Authorities credited students who alerted the bus driver for helping ensure the safety of those on board. Police said the case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift reporting in keeping schools safe.
