FHP: High-Speed Motorcycle Crash Leaves One Dead on SR 40

A 34-year-old Dunnellon man was killed Saturday evening in a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck on State Road 40, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. west of Southwest 185th Avenue Road in Marion County.

Troopers reported that the motorcycle was traveling west on State Road 40 at a high rate of speed, approaching a pickup truck from behind. The motorcycle struck the left rear portion of the truck, causing the bike to overturn multiple times.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

The pickup truck was driven by a 17-year-old Ocala male, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

FHP noted the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
