Ocala Motorcyclist Killed In Early Morning Crash Near Summerfield

A 62-year-old Ocala man was killed Monday morning after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at a rural Marion County intersection near Summerfield, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 475 and SE 178th Street. Troopers said a 71-year-old Summerfield man was driving a pickup truck westbound on SE 178th Street and had stopped at the intersection before attempting a wide right turn onto CR 475.

According to investigators, the pickup entered the path of a southbound motorcycle traveling on CR 475. The motorcycle struck the left front portion of the truck, ejecting the rider from the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. FHP reported the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
