Pickup Strikes Tree, Catches Fire in Fatal Marion Oaks Crash

A driver was killed Sunday evening after a pickup truck left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire in Marion Oaks.

The crash happened around 7:38 p.m. Aug. 23 on Marion Oaks Course, just south of SW 141st Lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said a Dodge pickup truck was traveling south on Marion Oaks Course when, for an unknown reason, the driver lost control and veered left into the grassy center median.

The truck then overcorrected, crossed back over the roadway and went off the right side of the road, where it struck a mailbox. The pickup continued forward, began sliding and struck a tree with its front right side.

The truck caught fire following the crash and became fully engulfed.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP had not identified the driver as of Sunday night, and the agency’s initial report indicated next of kin had not yet been notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
