Students will begin seeing the first signs of major construction at Belleview Elementary School after Christmas break, during the upcoming spring semester, as work moves forward on the replacement school.
The Belleview City Commission approved a request Tuesday from Ausley Construction to use city-owned property behind the Public Works facility for temporary construction access and staging. The property connects to the school site and will help with the early phases of construction while classes continue nearby.
Plans call for portions of the city property to be cleared and covered with limerock to create a construction route and staging area. Ausley Construction will be responsible for the work and associated costs. City Attorney Fred Landt noted the trees being removed for the staging area would eventually have to be cleared by the city for future plans for the property, meaning the work can be completed now at the contractor’s expense.
City staff supported the request, and commissioners approved the temporary use of the property as construction of the new Belleview Elementary takes shape.
