Disciplinary Disaster: Belt Battle Lands Local Man in the Clink

Belt Battle Boils Over in Marion County: Local Man Jailed

A domestic dispute took a violent turn on June 13, leading to the arrest of Charlie Elleby. Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call where Elleby allegedly committed battery and strangulation against his wife, Phoeby Elleby.

According to the report, Phoeby brought their son to Charlie’s residence to apologize to a neighbor for an earlier incident. Witnesses say a disagreement ensued when Charlie saw Phoeby disciplining their son with a belt. Charlie intervened, grabbing the belt and discarding it, leading to a physical altercation at the front door.

Witnesses, including Charlie’s mother, Angela Watson, observed the struggle but did not see the alleged strangulation. However, Phoeby reported being choked, and deputies noted visible injuries consistent with her account. Despite denying the strangulation, Charlie was arrested on the scene.

This incident adds to Charlie Elleby’s legal troubles, as he is already on probation for previous battery convictions in Alachua County. He now faces charges of battery by strangulation and domestic violence, marking his third battery offense. He remains in Marion County Jail pending further investigation.
