Kenny’s Place, established in 1993 by Leo Wiechen’s family, serves intellectually disabled adults in Marion County and was named in honor of Leo’s brother. Kenny’s Place offers various skill training in horticulture, laundry, cooking, and arts and crafts.
Kenny’s Place is unique in Marion County as they do not charge members a fee. Members attend Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 2 PM. They have 12 members and 3 staff.
Kenny’s Place receives no state funding; this program is possible because of donations and people’s love and kindness. General Manager Betsy Poore explained that funds from plant sales at the nursery also support the program. Kenny’s Place gives its members purpose. They provide a safe, faith-based environment for members and staff. They maintain the highest level of integrity for their members by treating them with dignity, respect, and equality.
