A tragic accident occurred on I-75 near Mile Marker 358 southbound on Sunday, June 30, 2024, leading to the death of one individual. At 4:09 PM, Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units were dispatched following multiple 911 calls reporting a collision between a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer hauling pontoon boats.

Arriving on the scene at 4:22 PM, MCFR Lowell Station #11 discovered the passenger vehicle lodged underneath the tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the road. Engine 11 Lieutenant promptly established command and conducted a comprehensive 360-degree inspection of the accident site. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the Lieutenant requested assistance from the Special Operations Technical Rescue Team.

The driver of the sedan was declared deceased at the scene. Firefighters and technical rescue specialists worked meticulously to lift the tractor-trailer and extract the vehicle from underneath it to confirm there were no additional occupants. After a thorough check, it was determined that the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident to determine the cause and any contributing factors.
