On July 23, around 10:30 a.m., Ocala Police Officer Semler made a significant breakthrough by locating a car reported stolen out of Hillsborough County, FL. The driver of the vehicle, Andre Parker, 32, attempted to evade capture by speeding away, leading to a brief pursuit. However, for safety reasons, the chase was called off near SW 10th St. and S. Pine Ave. The stolen car was occupied by three individuals.
Captain Keuntjes, in an unmarked vehicle, later spotted the stolen car traveling north on S. Pine Ave. Exercising caution, he followed the vehicle from a distance without activating his emergency lights. The car eventually headed toward downtown Ocala and was abandoned in an alley behind Harry’s restaurant, near the downtown square.
Two subjects were seen walking near the abandoned car, prompting immediate action. Capt. Keuntjes exited his vehicle and pursued Parker on foot, continuously ordering him to stop. His persistence paid off, as he managed to apprehend Parker after a brief chase.
Parker and his accomplice, Demario Smith, 35, were arrested. Parker faces a litany of charges, including grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding, possession of crack cocaine, and driving while license is suspended/revoked (third or subsequent offense for fleeing and eluding). Smith was charged with resisting arrest without violence. The third subject remains at large.
This incident highlights the quick thinking and coordinated efforts of the Ocala Police Department in ensuring the safety of the community while effectively handling high-risk situations.
