Domestic Battery Suspect Resists Arrest, Tasered After Violent Standoff
A Marion County man, already facing charges for domestic battery, found himself in more trouble after allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest on March 31, 2025. Matthew Morgan had been under investigation for allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend, Karissa Anderson, during a heated argument on March 30. Anderson, who was six months pregnant, reported that Morgan attacked her when she tried to gather some belongings from their shared residence.
According to police reports, after the violent altercation, Morgan fled to play “fish games” in The Villages, while Anderson left the residence to call 911. Deputies later located Morgan at his father’s home, where they attempted to arrest him. Morgan, however, was not about to go quietly. He resisted arrest, threatened to headbutt one of the deputies, and tried to break free from their hold.
When Morgan ignored commands to stop resisting, one deputy used a Taser, bringing the situation to a quick end. During the scuffle, one officer sustained a minor injury. Morgan was eventually handcuffed and transported to Marion County Jail without further incident.
The arrest came just weeks after Morgan was previously arrested for a similar incident involving Anderson. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery, domestic battery by strangulation, assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting with violence.
