Marion County Felon Faces Child Abuse and Assault Charges
Marion County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Alcarlos Smith, a convicted felon, following disturbing allegations of child abuse, aggravated assault, and illegal firearm possession. The investigation began during a drug trafficking case on August 1, 2024, when child victims disclosed instances of physical abuse and threatening behavior.
Forensic interviews conducted on August 13, 2024, at Kimberly’s Center for Child Protection revealed details of abuse stretching from January 2022 to July 2023. One child recounted being struck with an extension cord, leaving scars. The children described living in constant fear, with their phones confiscated and physical punishments escalating to the use of a belt and an extension cord. The children further alleged that Smith once pointed a gun at one child’s head during an argument about her communication with a boy. The incident, occurring late at night, escalated after Smith had been drinking, and he later claimed the gun was not loaded.
In a separate interview, one child witness alleged that Smith sold drugs from their home, describing his drug dealings involving cocaine and pills. This case developed from a drug investigation and now includes charges of child abuse, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
