Ocala Resident Steps Up to Assist Police in Suspect Arrest
On August 6, 2024, a routine police arrest on W Silver Springs Blvd took an unexpected turn when a local citizen, Greg Smith, heroically stepped in to aid an officer in need.
The incident occurred when an Ocala Police Department officer found himself in a struggle while attempting to arrest a non-compliant suspect in a vacant lot. Witnessing the encounter as he drove by, Mr. Smith immediately pulled over and offered his assistance without hesitation. Thanks to his quick intervention, the officer was able to safely handcuff the suspect, preventing the situation from escalating into potential injury for both the officer and the suspect.
