Broken Hearts and Pool Sticks: Infidelity Argument Leads to Aggravated Battery Charge

Lovers’ Quarrel Takes a Violent Twist: A Dramatic Night in Marion County

In a scene worthy of a telenovela, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance that escalated into an arrest on charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery by strangulation.

Deputies were called to the residence of Brian Baez-Perez and his ex-girlfriend, Gracemari Morales, on the night of June 26, 2024. The couple’s heated argument over Baez-Perez’s alleged infidelity turned violent, resulting in a chaotic night filled with broken items, bruises, and accusations.

Upon arrival, Deputy Goodman interviewed Morales inside the home, while the defendant, Baez-Perez, explained his version of the night’s events in the driveway. Baez-Perez claimed that he was attempting to leave after an argument about his relationships with other women when Morales began throwing objects, even striking his car. He admitted to pushing her in self-defense and provided a video showing Morales angrily pacing and shouting in the kitchen. Intriguingly, the video revealed Baez-Perez holding a broken piece of wood, which matched a welt on Morales’ arm.

Inside the house, deputies found evidence of the tumultuous altercation: items strewn across the floor, a cut on Morales’ eyebrow, and bruises consistent with strangulation on her neck. Morales recounted the night’s events, describing how Baez-Perez hit her with a broken pool stick and later grabbed her by the throat, throwing her against the wall in a fit of rage.

Despite Baez-Perez’s attempt to share his side of the story via video, the physical evidence and Morales’ injuries painted a damning picture. When confronted with Morales’ allegations, Baez-Perez requested a lawyer, sealing his fate for the night.

Deputies arrested Baez-Perez. He was transported to the Marion County Jail without further incident.
