Fake $100 Fiasco: Counterfeit Queen Caught in Marion County

The Red Dress Caper: Counterfeit Cash and a Trail of Cigars

In a story fit for the movies, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Tori Spinks, 28, who allegedly tried to turn counterfeit cash into real money by making a splashy entrance in a red dress.

On July 23, Spinks reportedly strutted into Smoky Fockers, a local business, and handed over a fake $100 bill for a pack of Backwoods cigars. The clerk, Faith Schwebel, initially accepted the bill, returning $85.04 in change. The real drama began when Schwebel discovered the bill’s lack of a security strip and confronted Spinks, who sheepishly returned $15.

But Spinks wasn’t done with her spree. The same day, she allegedly hit up La Dolce Vita Gelato & Pastry for some ice cream, where owner Gjon Merdita also fell for her counterfeit cash. Merdita caught on quickly and provided security footage showing Spinks getting into a dark SUV with an accomplice known only as “Riri.”

Spinks initially denied involvement, claiming she walked to the store. However, after some persuasion, she confessed to the scheme, admitting she needed the money and times were tough. Spinks is now facing charges of uttering forged instruments and petit theft.

As Spinks awaits her day in court, residents and business owners are left to wonder if “Riri” is still out there, ready for another caper.
