Congratulations to Belleview High School’s Zachary Townsend, 17, who signed his National Letter of Intent with Pasco-Hernando State College in New Port Richey on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at BHS in The Loft at 5:00 PM.

Townsend committed to a full four-year scholarship for cross country. A decorated runner, he has achieved numerous accolades during his four years at Belleview High. Named BHS’s 2024 Male Athlete of the Year, Townsend also maintains an impressive 3.9 GPA.

Family, friends, and coaches praised Zachary for his positivity, his ability to uplift any room he enters, and, of course, his exceptional running talent. Ranked 8th on the all-time BHS cross-country list, Townsend recorded an outstanding 5K time of 16 minutes, 33.9 seconds (3.1 miles).

Coach Jason Pfriender, Townsend’s cross-country coach throughout all four years at BHS, reflected on Zachary’s remarkable growth and accomplishments.

Also in attendance to show support was Coach Lee Rietsma, who will guide Townsend as his new coach at Pasco-Hernando State College starting in August 2025.
