Meth, Mud Pans, and Missteps: Ocala Woman Faces Laundry List of Charges
An Ocala woman learned the hard way that even petty theft can spiral into a grand showcase of criminal creativity. Tracy Freiwald was arrested on January 18th after deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person on NW 57th Avenue, where they found her casually strolling, allegedly weighed down by a stolen cooler and a conscience heavy enough to offer an unsolicited apology.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Freiwald confessed on the spot to pilfering an Igloo cooler, explaining she needed it to store groceries due to a power outage. Unfortunately for her, the crime scene was far from cool. Deputies discovered the cooler, along with a weight, a sheetrock mud pan, and a grill brush, scattered near the roadway. All items were later confirmed to belong to a nearby homeowner, who valued the loot at $123.
Things went further south when a search of Freiwald’s red bag allegedly unearthed the grill brush. But the plot thickened (and got stranger) when Freiwald informed deputies she had hidden methamphetamine in a most unconventional location—sans baggie, mind you.
Deputies called medics, but the defendant added a chase scene to the day’s drama, fleeing on foot before being apprehended and loaded into an ambulance. Her flair for concealment persisted even at the hospital, where she reportedly stashed a container of meth under a mattress, only for deputies to retrieve it moments later.
Freiwald now faces a slew of charges, including burglary, tampering with evidence, resisting without violence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and petit theft. She was transported to the Marion County Jail, where one hopes her penchant for hiding things is firmly under lock and key.
