Man Brings a Gun to a Name-Calling Fight, Lands in Jail
A man’s night out at a Marion County tiki bar ended in handcuffs after he allegedly mixed alcohol, a firearm, and a grudge in all the wrong ways.
Deputies arrested Ashton H. Hage at Oxford Downs on January 31 after he reportedly confronted his ex-girlfriend multiple times, hurled insults, and—on the third round—flashed a loaded firearm at her and her group of friends, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say Hage, clearly not over the breakup, repeatedly called Karlee R. Dasher vulgar names before lifting his shirt to reveal a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield tucked in his waistband. Witnesses, including Dasher’s current boyfriend and several others, told deputies they feared for their lives when they saw the gun.
Oxford Downs security quickly removed the weapon, which was loaded with seven bullets and one in the chamber, and called law enforcement. Deputies later reviewed surveillance footage, confirming Hage’s less-than-subtle attempt at intimidation.
In addition to six counts of aggravated assault, Hage racked up a laundry list of charges, including possession of a firearm while intoxicated, improper exhibition of a firearm, and disorderly conduct. A bartender confirmed Hage spent about $80 on alcohol before his arrest, which may explain why he allegedly kicked the inside of a patrol car while being transported to jail.
Hage was booked into the Marion County Jail, where the only thing he’ll be flashing for the foreseeable future is an orange jumpsuit.
