I-75 Strikes Again: Rush Hour Wreck Brings Traffic to a Standstill

(Photos: Ocala Fire Rescue) If there’s one thing more dependable than Florida’s afternoon thunderstorms, it’s an I-75 traffic jam. The latest installment came Wednesday afternoon when a multi-vehicle crash near mile marker 351 turned rush hour into a standstill for northbound drivers.

Emergency crews rolled in at approximately 4:49 p.m. to find a four-car mess blocking all three lanes—because what’s an I-75 commute without a little mayhem? Ocala Fire Rescue, Florida Highway Patrol, and just about every first responder in town scrambled to clear the wreckage and tend to the injured.
The crash lineup featured:

• A silver pickup truck with front-end damage and a minor fuel leak (because why not add a flammable element?).
• A black sedan crumpled at both ends against the guardrail, carrying two adults and a minor.
• A maroon SUV with damage to the front and back, hosting three more unfortunate souls.
A gold SUV that decided to go for a full flip, landing on its roof.

Despite the chaos, there were no entrapments, though six people took an involuntary ambulance ride to the hospital. Two, including the minor in the black sedan and the pickup truck driver, were transported as trauma alerts.

The ensuing traffic backup lasted about 90 minutes—because, naturally, a major I-75 crash wouldn’t be complete without bringing everything to a grinding halt.

As always, the takeaway remains the same: drive carefully, stay alert, and maybe leave 15 minutes early, because if history has taught us anything, this won’t be the last time I-75 turns into a parking lot.
