A tense evening in Summerfield led to the arrest of a local man, Corey Austin Alvut, after he allegedly brandished a firearm during an argument. The altercation unfolded at a residence on SE 103rd Ave. on March 11, 2025, after a disagreement turned violent.
According to the homeowner, Sean Wesley Van Heusen, Alvut and a victim had been playing pool earlier that evening when a verbal dispute escalated. In a shocking turn, Alvut reportedly retrieved a semi-automatic pistol, placing it against the victim’s head before physically pushing him toward the garage exit. The incident, captured on security cameras, shows the defendant grabbing the victim by the collar, repeatedly shoving him, and even dragging him across the garage floor.
Van Heusen, witnessing the escalating danger, ran inside to protect his children. After reviewing the footage, deputies gathered witness statements and confirmed the victim’s account of the event. The victim later disclosed that Alvut had been intoxicated and acting aggressively before the confrontation. A green laser dot was allegedly seen on the victim as he walked away from the scene, further heightening the tension.
Alvut was located at his home shortly after the altercation. During a brief phone call with Van Heusen, Alvut reportedly tried to convince him not to share the incriminating footage with authorities. However, when deputies arrived at his door, he surrendered without incident.
He was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail on charges of aggravated battery. Despite the dramatic footage, the firearm was not recovered as there was no evidence showing it inside the residence.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly a night of fun can turn into a dangerous situation. Alvut now faces serious charges after what began as a simple pool game spiraled into a heated confrontation.
