A tragic fire in Silver Springs claimed the lives of two dogs and left an occupant hospitalized with smoke inhalation on March 11, 2025. At 11:21 a.m., multiple 911 callers alerted authorities to a mobile home ablaze in the 18600 block of SE 22nd Lane, sending Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters from MCFR’s Lynne Station #4 were on-site within four minutes and immediately initiated an aggressive attack on the fire. Additional units from Anthony Station #1, Fort McCoy Station #7, Salt Springs Station #15, and Weirsdale Station #27 joined in battling the intense flames and smoke.
While crews worked swiftly to extinguish the blaze, rescue personnel conducted a primary and secondary search of the home. Tragically, two dogs were found dead in the fire.
One resident was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, though no injuries were reported among the firefighters on scene. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the other occupants.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
