Early Morning Barn Fire Claims Lives of 21 Horses

Reddick, FL — A tragic early morning fire destroyed a barn and claimed the lives of 21 horses on April 8, 2025. At 3:58 a.m., emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a barn fire at a location on the 6000 block of Northwest 118th Street in Reddick. The caller reported that horses were trapped inside.

MCFR Lowell Station #11 was the first to respond, arriving at 4:13 a.m. to find the 10,000 square-foot, single-story barn fully engulfed in flames. The roof had collapsed, leaving the structure unrecognizable.

Despite the best efforts of responders, the fire took the lives of 21 horses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters at the scene.

The fire was declared under control at 5:13 a.m.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the State of Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigators, along with the Marion County Fire Marshal’s Office.
