A Marion County man is facing felony charges after deputies say a heated argument with his mother over his lifestyle choices spiraled into food on the floor, ripped skin, and a search effort that ended with a phone ping.
According to the sheriff’s office, 29-year-old Stanley Parker IV was living with his 66-year-old mother when the dispute broke out on Sept. 9. The mother told deputies she had grown frustrated with her son “living off her and playing video games” instead of finding direction. Parker allegedly became defensive, threw the meal she was eating all over the kitchen, and then grabbed her wrist hard enough to tear the skin when she reached for her phone to dial 911.
The victim told deputies Parker snatched both her cell phone and her work phone, retreated into the bathroom, and then hurled them back to the ground when she demanded them. She said he shouted that he was going to kill himself before storming out of the house.
The mother left to get dinner, since hers was now on the kitchen floor. When she returned, Parker was gone and the food mess had been cleaned up. Later, she noticed a purchase on her debit card — which she allows him to use — at a Dollar General.
Deputies said while on scene they saw the abrasion on the woman’s wrist, consistent with her account. Parker began sending text messages to her about petting the dogs and promising he would “no longer live off of her.” Deputies sought a courtesy phone ping, eventually locating him on the 13000 block of NW 97th Place.
He was detained, read his Miranda rights, and told deputies there was no physical altercation — though he admitted there had been a verbal fight.
Parker was booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of domestic battery on a person 65 or older and tampering with a witness/victim.
