A Marion County man was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly battering his girlfriend, fleeing from deputies, and leading a short vehicle pursuit before being tased and taken into custody.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence on October 18 following a reported domestic disturbance. The victim told deputies that her boyfriend, Marvin Andres Hernandez, 33, of Marion County, became angry during an argument and grabbed her phone while she was speaking with her sister. The sister, who was still on the call, said she heard the victim yell, “Get off of me,” before the call disconnected.
When deputies arrived, Hernandez had fled on foot. A short time later, he was spotted driving a black Hyundai near the home. Deputies said Hernandez refused to stop when emergency lights and sirens were activated, instead speeding through multiple stop signs and residential streets before returning to the residence.
After exiting the vehicle, Hernandez reportedly ignored repeated commands before being tased twice in the upper back and detained.
A search of the vehicle revealed a small bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the center console, deputies said.
Hernandez, whose license has been suspended multiple times, has prior convictions for domestic battery and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, domestic battery (second or subsequent offense), driving while license suspended or revoked (third or subsequent offense), possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Marion County Jail without bond.
