A routine traffic stop in Reddick turned into a full-blown roadside rodeo Wednesday night after deputies say a passenger with multiple warrants decided he wasn’t going quietly.
Around 7:50 p.m., Deputy Montalvo spotted a red Lexus on West Highway 316 with window tint so dark it practically needed headlights of its own. When he pulled the vehicle over, deputies immediately noticed two things: neither man inside was wearing a seatbelt, and the passenger — identified as 37-year-old Stanley David Wilson of Citra — was wearing a lapful of marijuana residue.
A records check revealed Wilson had three active warrants out of Lake County, including two for felony fleeing. That’s when, according to deputies, the night took a turn.
As they tried to take Wilson into custody, he allegedly tensed up, pulled away, and shoved Deputy Montalvo hard enough to knock him backward and send his body-worn camera flying. Deputies say Wilson then tried to bolt, kicking off a chaotic struggle that involved multiple Taser deployments — two probe shots and a drive-stun from Deputy Qubaisy — all described as having “minimal effect.”
Wilson reportedly kept slipping free, even wriggling out of his jacket, before another Taser shot finally slowed him down long enough for deputies Montalvo, Qubaisy, and McCartney to bring him under control.
Deputy Qubaisy reported knee pain from falling during the fight, while Deputy Montalvo suffered scratches and a dislocated ring finger. Wilson had no prior battery history but now faces felony charges of resisting with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. He was booked into the Marion County Jail without further incident and held without bond.
