Ocklawaha firefighters quickly contained a vehicle fire Thursday afternoon that extended into a nearby mobile home, preventing further damage and avoiding injuries.
At 3:48 p.m. on Thursday, Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 11700 block of East Highway 25 following multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle fire that had spread to a single-wide mobile home.
Spruce Creek Engine 30 arrived on scene at 3:58 p.m. to find the vehicle fully involved and the mobile home approximately 20 to 30 percent engulfed in flames. Battalion Chief 3 established command and requested additional resources as crews moved into suppression operations.
Firefighters from Weirsdale Station 27, Silver Springs Shores Station 17, and Belleview Station 18 responded to assist with extinguishing the fire. Crews quickly applied water to the structure while rescue personnel conducted a primary search of the residence.
All occupants were confirmed to be outside the home, and no injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 4:02 p.m. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the affected family.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
