A rear-end crash along U.S. 27 in Marion County Wednesday night left one woman dead and another driver critically injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. just north of Northwest 160th Avenue. Troopers say a 4-door sedan traveling northbound in the outside lane collided with the rear of a farm tractor that was also traveling north ahead of it.
The driver of the sedan, a 69-year-old man from Williston, suffered critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital. His passenger, a 73-year-old woman, also of Williston, was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Both occupants of the sedan were wearing seatbelts, according to investigators.
The driver of the tractor, a 28-year-old man from Ocala, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
