Fatal Crash Shuts Down Stretch of I-75 in Marion County

A crash involving a pickup truck and two tractor-trailers on Interstate 75 in Marion County left one man dead and another seriously injured Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10:35 a.m. near the 356-mile marker, about two miles north of U.S. 27.

According to FHP, the pickup truck was traveling northbound in the left lane when it made an improper lane change into the center lane and struck the left front portion of a tractor-trailer traveling beside it. The pickup then rotated into the right lane and entered the path of a second tractor-trailer.

Troopers said the second tractor-trailer struck the pickup truck and pushed it onto the right shoulder, where both vehicles came to rest.

Investigators said one occupant of the pickup truck, identified only as a 59-year-old man, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second occupant, a 38-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The drivers of both tractor-trailers were not injured.

FHP said investigators have not yet determined which occupant was driving the pickup truck at the time of the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing. Next of kin notification for the deceased was still pending Wednesday afternoon.
