Summerfield Woman Arrested on Felony Charges for Failing to Comply With Sexual Predator Registration Laws

A Summerfield woman designated as a sexual predator under Florida law was arrested Monday after investigators determined she failed to report multiple required changes to her residence and vehicle information, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Linda Kay Richerson, 63, was taken into custody on Feb. 2 at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Offender and Predator Unit (SOPU) and charged with three felony violations of Florida’s sexual predator registration statutes. The charges include failure to report a change of residence, failure to report intent to move, and failure to report vehicle information within 48 hours.

According to the arrest affidavit, Richerson was convicted in Putnam County in 2005 of sexually battering a mentally defective or helpless person. She was designated a sexual predator in 2009 and is required by law to keep her address, vehicle, and identification records updated with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and local law enforcement agencies.

Richerson most recently registered in Marion County on Dec. 23, 2025, confirming she was living at 3040 SE 142nd Lane in Summerfield and reporting no changes to her information. She signed documentation acknowledging that she understood her legal obligations, including the requirement to report any change in residence or vehicle ownership within 48 hours.

On Jan. 8, a deputy attempted to verify her residence but was told by residents at the address that Richerson had not lived there since Jan. 5. A subsequent records check showed no address change had been reported to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles or the Sheriff’s Office.

On Feb. 2, detectives contacted Richerson by phone. She stated she still lived at the Summerfield residence but said she was currently in Inverness using a rented U-Haul. Investigators advised her that rental vehicles must also be reported. Later that day, a registration specialist notified detectives that Richerson was in the SOPU office and admitted she was no longer living at the Summerfield address.

During a recorded interview, Richerson stated she moved out on Jan. 2 after her daughter was arrested, rented a U-Haul in her name, and had been living in a tent in Citrus County. None of those changes had been reported within the legally required time frame.

Investigators also noted Richerson has multiple prior convictions for failing to comply with sexual predator registration requirements in Clay and Sumter counties, including convictions in 2019 and 2024.

She was transported to the Marion County Jail and is being held without bond.
