A furnace fire that spread into the roof of a large manufacturing facility near Belleview was quickly brought under control by Marion County firefighters Thursday morning.
Marion County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Townley Engineering in the 10500 block of Southeast 110th Street Road at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 6 after receiving reports of a commercial structure fire involving a furnace and the roof.
Battalion Chief 3 arrived at 10:21 a.m. and confirmed a working fire in the roof above a furnace inside the approximately 50,000-square-foot manufacturing building.
Crews from Belleview Station 18, The Villages Station 10, Spruce Creek Station 30 and Rolling Greens Station 28 responded. Firefighters accessed the roof and used dry chemical extinguishers to knock down the flames before checking the surrounding portions of the building for additional fire spread.
Employees had safely evacuated the facility before firefighters arrived.
The fire was declared under control at 10:40 a.m., about 25 minutes after the initial call. No employees or firefighters were injured.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
