A 28-year-old Ocala man was killed early Monday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole in southwest Marion County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:32 a.m. Sept. 28 near SW 140th Avenue and SW 20th Place.
FHP said the man was driving a sedan northbound on SW 140th Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle. The sedan traveled off the roadway and onto the grass shoulder before striking a utility pole.
The impact caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the FHP report, the driver was not wearing a seat belt. His next of kin has been notified.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
