Bonnie and Clyde of Ocala Busted
In a case of criminal partnership gone awry, an Ocala husband and wife have been arrested for a series of car burglaries and fraudulent purchases that left southwest Ocala on edge. Detective Decker of the Ocala Police Department cracked the case, nabbing Luis Omar Aquino Torres, 42, and Yecenia Ivette Vazquez Aquino, 48, after a wave of thefts and frauds linked to the duo.
The spree started on Nov. 28, when a victim leaving Epic Theaters on SW College Road reported their vehicle burglarized. Among the loot: cash, a driver’s license, and debit cards, which were promptly used for over $2,000 in fraudulent purchases at Walmart and the Paddock Mall. Another theft that same day at Cracker Barrel on SW College Road racked up an additional $1,500 in fraudulent spending.
As the reports stacked up, with similar crimes at Gaitway Plaza, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Hollywood 16 Theaters, Detective Decker connected the dots. Surveillance footage from multiple locations confirmed the suspects’ identities, and the pair’s faces were splashed across OPD’s social media.
The break came on Dec. 4, when a sharp-eyed tipster spotted the duo at a 7-Eleven on SE Maricamp Road. Officers swooped in and apprehended them, ending their run of unlocked-car looting.
OPD thanked the community for helping solve the case, reminding residents to lock their car doors and keep valuables out of sight. As for this duo, their holiday plans now include court dates—and possibly matching jumpsuits.
