Marion County Madness: Man Arrested After Bizarre Showdown
In a scene that could have been lifted straight from a bizarre police drama, deputies found themselves embroiled in a heated confrontation with a belligerent William Keen, on June 16, 2024.
The afternoon began with a routine call about a suspicious person near NE Jacksonville Rd & NE 165th St, which escalated quickly into chaos. Keen, who was already on the radar under the Baker Act, refused to leave Deputy R. Berrien’s patrol car upon arrival at Vines Hospital.
“Just leave me the [expletive] alone,” Keen reportedly shouted, showcasing his talent for colorful language and an impressive array of racial slurs. When Deputy Berrien tried to coax him out, Keen responded with a resounding “no,” making the situation about as pleasant as a root canal.
The defendant’s unique approach to resisting arrest included a mix of verbal abuse and physical antics, like growling, attempting to bite, and even kicking Berrien several times. Despite being handcuffed, Keen managed to turn the backseat of the patrol car into a wrestling ring, with Deputy Berrien trying to wrangle him out while avoiding getting bitten.
After what could only be described as a physical and verbal circus, Keen was finally subdued and taken into custody with the help of Deputy W. Futral. Keen’s parting words? A charming combination of expletives and more racial slurs, proving that even in defeat, his mouth remained undefeated.
Keen now faces charges of battery on an officer, firefighter, EMT, and assault on a law enforcement officer. He was transported to Marion County Jail, where he’ll have plenty of time to reflect on his actions—or perhaps practice some new insults.
In the annals of bizarre arrests, this one will undoubtedly go down as a classic, reminding everyone that in Marion County, you never know what a “routine” call might turn into.

The criminal learned his craft and expletives from the felon-in-chief. Role models matter!
