Letter to the Editor:
Good afternoon. My name is Nancy Carp, and I’m a proud Democrat. Why do I mention this? Because I am supporting the Republican candidate for County Commissioner, Sarah Dennis.
County Commissioner is a non-partisan elected position intended to address citizen concerns above specific Republican or Democrat issues. Regardless of your political affiliation, we all want clean and adequate water, planned growth along with sufficient infrastructure, decent policies within different county departments, efficiency and fiscally responsible policies, and more.
Our current commissioners have been focused on developers, where overdevelopment has led to increased traffic, higher living costs, strained public services, and more.
They have been fiscally irresponsible. Retirees, like those in this community, have been negatively affected by the incumbents and will continue to be negatively affected unless WE, the people, make a change.
Neither current nor future residents are being considered. The incumbents have ignored the fact that infrastructure has a significant impact on both citizen quality of life and local economic activities. Raising sufficient revenue to run our local government, as well as to provide services expected by their constituents, is their responsibility. They have failed us.
To be a good commissioner, they should possess the skill to communicate with their community groups and individuals, listen to and address their concerns, and put the citizens first.
Sarah, being a native Marion County resident, has seen the changes in the county, both good and bad. She supports small businesses. She wants to be a voice for Marion County citizens and has a vision to benefit current and future residents. She values smart growth and strong fiscal management.
As a Democrat, I admit that I don’t agree with Sarah on general political values and beliefs, but that’s not what the Commissioner job is about. It’s about MY quality of life in MY county for however long I am a citizen of Marion County.
I may not agree with all of Sarah’s visions for the county, but I believe she has integrity, aptitude, and a strong belief in what Marion County should be. She will be a good listener.
Political differences aren’t always bad, but without communication, we could be doomed. Let’s learn and educate ourselves to benefit us personally and Marion County. It’s time for a change – I officially endorse Sarah Almeida Dennis for County Commissioner District 1!
“May Tomorrow Be A Better Day Than Today”
