North Marion High School Cheerleader Katie Curd to Represent at Pearl Harbor Day Parade
Katie Curd, a dedicated cheerleader from North Marion High School, has been selected to participate in the prestigious Pearl Harbor Day Parade, which takes place annually in Honolulu, Hawaii. Curd, who has been involved in cheerleading for nine years, will join cheerleaders from across the United States in commemorating the historical significance of Pearl Harbor.

Katie first learned about the Pearl Harbor Day Parade in fifth grade during a social studies lesson. “My teacher went over what happened that day and how it is remembered,” Katie recalls. The event made a lasting impact on her, and now, as a high school student, she is honored to be one of the few cheerleaders chosen from her team to participate in the parade.
In addition to her cheerleading commitments, Katie also serves as a cheer coach for the Marion County Youth Football League (MCYFL), working with third and fourth graders. Her dedication to the sport is evident as she spends around seven hours each week practicing and performing. Her hard work has not gone unnoticed—Katie was named an All-American cheerleader at camp this year and earned the prestigious “Pin it Forward” award, which recognizes individuals with high spirit, a strong work ethic, a willingness to help others, and leadership qualities.
To make her dream of participating in the Pearl Harbor Day Parade a reality, Katie has been raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign. She is also organizing a raffle and bake sale to support her efforts. “I am in the works trying to do a raffle and a bake sale to also help raise money,” Katie shared.
An avid history enthusiast, Katie’s favorite subject in school has always been history. She is passionate about learning how the country has evolved and is particularly interested in becoming a first-grade teacher. “I want to help young minds and help shape them and make an impact on the world,” Katie explained.
When asked about the importance of remembering Pearl Harbor, Katie emphasized the significance of honoring the lives lost and the soldiers who fought for the country. “It is such a huge part of our history, and we need to remember those lives that were sadly taken that day and all the soldiers who lost their lives fighting for this country,” she said.
Katie’s journey to the Pearl Harbor Day Parade is not just a personal achievement but a reminder of the importance of remembering our history. Her participation in the parade will serve as a tribute to the sacrifices made on December 7, 1941, and will help ensure that the legacy of Pearl Harbor continues to be honored by future generations.
