Local Man’s Driving Adventure Takes a Sudden Turn: Fleeing, Eluding, and Unplanned Car Washes
In a classic case of “not quite what you planned,” a Marion County man found himself in a high-speed chase that ended in an unexpected detour to the local car wash. On October 15, 2024, Deandra Stone’s driving skills—or lack thereof—caught the attention of Lieutenant Medlin while cruising along NE 35th Street. Medlin quickly activated his lights to pull Stone over after he swerved dangerously across lanes.
However, Stone had other plans. Instead of stopping, he allegedly decided that a leisurely drive was in order, reaching speeds between 20 and 40 mph while dragging parts of his vehicle along the pavement. Stone’s joyride took a pit stop in a car wash parking lot, but instead of a wax and shine, he executed a U-turn and continued on his way, this time headed south on Jacksonville Road.
As luck would have it, the Ocala Police were already responding to reports of a hit-and-run involving a car that suspiciously matched Stone’s ride. With the game of cat and mouse reaching its climax, Stone ultimately pulled over on NE 28th Street. Deputies conducted a felony stop—certainly not the kind of wash-and-go he had in mind.
After a quick chat with the cops, it became clear that Stone had a less-than-clear idea of why he’d found himself in the back seat of a patrol car. When asked about his unusual driving route, Stone simply stated, “I was just driving.” A compelling argument, indeed.
As for the car wash? When asked if he intended to get his car cleaned, he offered no explanation for the unscheduled stop. It seems that even during a police pursuit, some drivers just can’t resist a quick detour.
Stone has been charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement and was transported to Marion County Jail, where he likely pondered his next trip—one that hopefully doesn’t involve police lights or an impromptu car wash visit.
