Belleview will once again pause to remember and reflect on Thursday, September 11, when the city hosts its annual Freedom Walk at the Belleview Community Center. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. and is open to the entire community.
The event honors the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the 2001 terrorist attacks and also pays tribute to the men and women who continue to safeguard our freedoms. Military members, first responders, and public safety personnel will be recognized alongside local civic groups and veterans’ organizations. ROTC programs from area schools are also expected to participate, reinforcing the connection between generations of service.
The program includes music from the Souls Harbor Church Choir and remarks from Mayor Christine Dobkowski and State Representative Ryan Chamberlin. Their messages will focus on both remembrance and the importance of unity within the community.
Gregg Smith Automotive will provide light refreshments following the ceremony. Weather permitting, the evening will conclude with a community walk through Lake Lillian Park—a reflective stroll that serves as a visible reminder of strength, resilience, and shared purpose.
The Freedom Walk is free to attend, open to all ages, and designed to bring the community together in remembrance while honoring those who protect and serve.
