Probation Violator Jumps from Third-Floor Window in Failed Escape Attempt

Deputies say a probation violator turned a hotel stay into an action scene Thursday afternoon — but without the Hollywood landing.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, 48-year-old Michael John Lanctot refused to answer the door of his third-floor room at WoodSpring Suites on East Silver Springs Boulevard, despite repeated knocks and announcements from deputies there to serve a warrant. When backup and K-9 units were called in, Lanctot reportedly chose the window instead of the door, leaping out and crashing down onto the property below.

He didn’t get far. Deputies caught up with him in the parking lot of Fatboys BBQ next door, where medics treated him for jump-related injuries. A search turned up methamphetamine in his pocket, investigators said, and hotel staff reported a $400 air-conditioning unit damaged in his attempted getaway.

Lanctot was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting without violence. His bond was set at $7,000, with his original probation violation warrant also in play.

Looks like the only thing that broke his fall was the law.
