Belleview Police: Man Accused of Killing Chihuahua During Dispute

A Belleview man was arrested last week after police say he severely beat his girlfriend and killed her dog during a violent altercation inside their apartment.

On Oct. 20, Belleview police responded to Lake View Apartments on SE Robinson Road after a caller reported that “he beat her” and that there was “blood all over the walls,” according to an arrest affidavit.

When officers arrived, they found a woman crawling out of the unit, hysterical and covered in bruises and cuts. She told police she had been asleep when her boyfriend, identified as 52-year-old Elliot Omar Mack, began violently attacking her.

The victim said Mack used multiple objects to strike her, including a kitchen utensil holder and a speaker, and pushed a dresser on top of her. She also stated that her dog, a small Chihuahua, was killed during the attack as it attempted to protect her. Officers later found the dog deceased inside a pillowcase with apparent trauma.

While the victim declined medical transport, Marion County Fire Rescue reported her blood pressure was “dangerously high” at the scene.

Another resident told officers that Mack often beat the victim, but that it went unreported. The witness also said Mack threatened her after locking the victim out of the apartment following the attack.

Police located Mack’s wallet with photo ID inside the victim’s purse. He was later taken into custody and charged with domestic battery and cruelty to animals causing death or excessive pain.

The dog’s remains and other evidence were turned over to Marion County Animal Control for further investigation, including a necropsy.

Mack was booked into the Marion County Jail without bond.
