Deputies say a 24-year-old woman turned a family home into a Halloween house of horrors Friday morning.
Jermesha Breanna Shackleford spent October 31 in handcuffs after what deputies describe as a domestic dispute gone full demolition. She now faces charges including battery by strangulation, felony criminal mischief, and simple battery.
It all began around 9:26 a.m. when Shackleford reportedly attacked her mother during a heated conversation about doing more around the house. The mother told deputies her daughter lashed out, hitting her multiple times, biting her cheek, and choking her long enough to restrict her breathing. Deputies noted swelling around Mills’s left eye and marks consistent with a bite.
But the trouble didn’t stop there — it escalated when Shackleford discovered her grandmother had hidden her black backpack, allegedly out of concern it may have contained a firearm. According to the report, Shackleford demanded the return of her belongings, yelling “Where is my sh—?” before pushing her grandmother, knocking her to the floor.
From there, deputies say Shackleford switched roles from aggressor to vandal. Armed with a metal bar, she walked outside and smashed the windows of her mother’s 2012 Honda Civic, then returned to the house to finish what can only be described as an indoor demolition derby. A broken TV, shattered sliding glass door, mirrors in pieces — deputies described glass “scattered throughout” the residence.
By the time deputies arrived, the reported price tag for the damage topped $6,000.
Shackleford refused to talk to investigators, but reportedly admitted mid-arrest, “I hit my grandma.”
She was booked into the Marion County Jail without bond.
