The Belleview Winn Dixie hosted a food drive for the Villages Evening Rotary Fall Food Drive. Rotarians, Jim and Sue Bodenner expressed gratitude to Winn Dixie and its shoppers for their generosity. They collected 800 pounds of food and $200 in donations from shoppers at this location. The Rotarians repeatedly emphasized to other members how the shoppers understood the need and were happy to help.
The Evening Rotary Club donates $1000 each month to St. Theresa’s Social Services in Belleview. Director Michael Travaglini explained that they provide financial assistance and purchase items that help the homeless meet their needs. Hope Lake Weir Nutrition Center also participated in the collection. Their pantry assists people in Marion County with food needs. The Rotarians also volunteer to help with their food distribution on Thursdays.
Food insecurity has been a major focus for the Evening Rotarians for the past six years. They have provided assistance to the Emergency Pantry at East Marion Elementary School and other food pantries in Sumter and Lake counties.
