A brief precautionary lockdown was implemented at Belleview Elementary School on the morning of April 13 after a student made a statement that prompted concern, according to school officials.
School officials notified families that the school entered a “Code Yellow” at approximately 9:30 a.m. The situation was assessed by staff and administration, and officials determined there was no credible threat. The code was lifted about 15 minutes later, at 9:45 a.m., and normal operations resumed.
A Code Yellow is a precautionary measure used when a potential concern is identified but not confirmed as an immediate threat. During a Code Yellow, exterior doors are secured, and students and staff remain inside classrooms while instruction continues under controlled movement.
The protocol is designed to allow school officials to investigate situations without disrupting the entire campus or escalating to a full lockdown unless necessary.
In this case, school officials said the statement that prompted the response was found to have no credibility. The campus returned to its regular schedule after the precaution was lifted.
