A hit-and-run crash involving a Marion County school bus left several students injured Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 8:22 a.m. at the intersection of Southeast 145th Street and Southeast 38th Terrace.
Troopers say a pickup truck traveling westbound failed to slow down and rear-ended a school bus that was stopped to pick up students. The bus was carrying 54 high school students at the time of the crash.
Five students were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the bus, a 66-year-old Summerfield man, was not injured, according to the report.
After the collision, the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene without providing any information. Investigators described the vehicle as an average-sized pickup truck with a white, blue, and orange color scheme.
The Florida Highway Patrol is actively searching for the driver and is asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is asked to contact FHP by dialing *347 or calling the Ocala station at 352-512-6634.
The crash remains under investigation.
