A Marion County man has been charged with killing his father after investigators searching for a missing person discovered human remains buried behind a Dunnellon home.
On Tuesday, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Caitlin Hartigan arrested 25 year old Andres Bahamon on a charge of Second Degree Murder in the death of his father, 43 year old Andres Bahamon-Prada.
Bahamon was already being held at the Marion County Jail following his May 19 arrest on a charge of Tampering with Evidence connected to the missing person investigation.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating Bahamon-Prada’s disappearance on May 16 after a family member reported not seeing him since May 7.
As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered evidence suggesting foul play and opened a homicide investigation.
On May 18, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence located at 2180 NW 225th Avenue in Dunnellon. During the search, investigators found an area of freshly disturbed soil and uncovered human remains later identified as Bahamon-Prada. Detectives also reported finding multiple items inside the home that appeared to contain dried blood.
Authorities said Andres Bahamon quickly became the primary suspect in the case.
Although he initially declined to speak with investigators about his father’s disappearance, detectives later interviewed Bahamon while he was being held at the Marion County Jail.
During that interview, investigators said Bahamon admitted to killing his father and provided details about the homicide and subsequent burial. Detectives said he acknowledged burying the victim in the backyard in an effort to avoid arrest.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, along with Bahamon’s statements to detectives, investigators charged him with Second Degree Murder.
Bahamon remains incarcerated at the Marion County Jail without bond.
