A 40-year-old man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies say he fled from traffic stops twice Sunday morning before being located at a Summerfield residence with suspected narcotics.
According to an arrest affidavit, Deputy William Futral first spotted a blue motorcycle near the 14300 block of U.S. Highway 441 in Summerfield around 7 a.m. on July 19. The deputy reported the rider made an abrupt U-turn after noticing the marked patrol vehicle, then accelerated rapidly, changed lanes without signaling, and continued northbound after the deputy activated emergency lights and sirens.
The affidavit states the pursuit continued toward Belleview, where the rider allegedly drove through a steady red light at Southeast 132nd Street Road before continuing west. Deputies discontinued the pursuit due to public safety concerns.
Roughly 40 minutes later, the deputy reported seeing what appeared to be the same motorcycle traveling on Southeast Sunset Harbor Road. When the deputy again attempted a traffic stop, investigators say the rider accelerated away, leading deputies into the Ocklawaha area before they lost sight of the motorcycle.
A short time later, deputies located the blue motorcycle behind a residence near Southeast Sunset Harbor Road and Southeast 134th Court. Investigators identified Corey Edward Ulmer sitting on the steps outside the home. According to the affidavit, deputies observed injuries consistent with road rash and found clothing and a helmet matching those worn by the fleeing motorcyclist.
After Ulmer was taken into custody, deputies searched a backpack and a small black bag that investigators said belonged to him. The affidavit states deputies found suspected marijuana, suspected fentanyl, a glass pipe with residue, and two bags containing a crystal-like substance. Field tests reportedly returned positive results for THC, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.
Ulmer was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement with lights and sirens activated, possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Deputies also cited him for driving without a valid license before transporting him to AdventHealth Ocala for medical clearance and then to the Marion County Jail.
