A 76-year-old pedestrian was killed late Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking in the roadway on State Road 326 east of Northwest 40th Terrace, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. Investigators said a 28-year-old Reddick man was driving a sedan eastbound on SR 326 when, for reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was walking within the eastbound inside lane directly in the vehicle’s path. The sedan struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver’s vehicle remained at the scene, and he was not injured in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
